On Friday, Nov. 1, Heights Arts opens its 23rd annual Holiday Store to the public, offering unique, handmade gifts created by more than 100 local artists. The store holds its general opening 6–8 p.m., following a Heights Arts members-only preview 5–6 p.m. The 2024 Holiday store will be open through Dec. 30.

Shoppers will find an array of distinctive items, including decorative boxes, candles, jewelry, ornaments, and a wide variety of artworks such as prints, paintings, photography, sculptural glass, and ceramics. The Holiday Store not only provides an opportunity to discover one-of-a-kind gifts, but also supports local artisans and celebrates the creative spirit of the community.

Also in November, Heights Arts kicks off its signature concert series, Close Encounters, with a performance titled "OUVRAGE DE DAME: Music for Winds by Women" on Sunday, Nov. 3, 3–4:30 p.m.

The concert will be held at the Heights Theater, 2781 Euclid Heights Blvd. Tickets are $60 for the general public and $51 for members.

The concert features pianist Christina Dahl and wind soloists from the Cleveland Orchestra, including Joshua Smith (flute), Frank Rosenwein (oboe), Robert Woolfrey (clarinet), Gareth Thomas (bassoon), and Nathaniel Silberschlag (French horn). The program focuses on French compositions by women from around the turn of the 20th century, providing an engaging and unexpected musical experience.

Close Encounters offers intimate performances in unique venues, allowing audiences to experience chamber music as it was intended—up close and personal. This format enhances the connection between performers and the audience, creating a memorable cultural experience.

Season tickets are  available for this five-concert series, curated by Cleveland Orchestra cellist Dane Johansen.

As it approaches its 25th anniversary in 2025, Heights Arts is reflecting on its contributions to the community over the past quarter-century. Since its inception, Heights Arts has aimed to celebrate local literary, musical, and visual artists through various initiatives, including public installations, gallery exhibitions, and music performances. Heights Arts is noted for hosting Ohio’s longest-running poet laureateship, providing arts internships for students, and facilitating regular exhibitions that highlight regional talent.

Exhibitions Coordinator Heather Patterson emphasized that “Heights Arts is a testament to the transformative power of creativity. This anniversary is not just a celebration of our past but a launch pad for the future, where art continues to inspire and connect our community.”
