Cleveland Heights-University Heights Board of Education meeting highlights 9-20-22
SEPTEMBER 20, 2022, work session
- Progress on strategic plan goals
- GEAR-UP update
Present were President Malia Lewis, and Board Members Dan Heintz, James Posch, Jodi Sourini, and Beverly Wright. Also present were Superintendent Elizabeth Kirby and Treasurer Scott Gainer. The meeting lasted about 1 hour 30 minutes.
Progress on strategic plan goals
The goals were developed as broad, long-term aims that reflect the district’s mission and vision. Staff members Felicia Gould, Lashonda Abdussatar, Allison Byrd, Christina Bauer, Karen Liddell-Anderson, and Robert Swaggard explained in detail the action steps the district is taking to achieve goal one, “Every student graduates ready to succeed in college and career,” and goal two, "Excellent education is provided to each student in every District school and classroom through multiple pathways.” The board and district administration are very cognizant and focused on data that will track achievement of these goals.
The board approved a proclamation in support of National GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) week. The district has received two federal GEAR UP grants and a district student was named federal GEAR UP student of the year. GEAR-UP grants provide low-income, minority, and underserved students with the support and resources they need to go to college despite the challenges they may face.
Upcoming meetings are a regular session on Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. and a work session on Oct. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the board of education offices.
