Cleveland Heights-University Heights Board of Education meeting highlights 8-2-2022

Present were Board President Malia Lewis and Board Members Jodi Sourini, and Beverly Wright. Board Members Dan Heintz and James Posch were not present. Also present was Superintendent Elizabeth Kirby.

Public comments

University Heights Mayor Michael Brennan spoke requesting school district property to house the City of University Heights’s new planned service department and their vehicles. The land requested would be from the Wiley School building site. 

Amy Rosenbluth and Cherish Bailey addressed the board to assess the successful impact Lake Erie Ink has had on students in the past year. 

Superintendent’s report - Title IX

The superintendent met with leaders from the Chicago Public Schools to learn about procedures they have enacted to protect students and to be Title IX compliant. A dress code draft is in the works. It has been sent to legal counsel for review and will be shared with the board at the next meeting. The staff will participate in service training issues related to Title IX. The board is interviewing people for the position of compliance officer. This is a one-year position.

Bus depot

The bus depot will be completed by the end of August. Bus routes will be ready for the beginning of the school year.

The next board meeting will be a work session on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 6:30 p.m.
