Forest Hill Neighborhood to host 51 garage sales spanning 21 streets on one day

Spring is a great time to declutter basements, garages and attics and welcome in the season. Residents of the Forest Hill neighborhood that spans Cleveland Heights and parts of East Cleveland are taking this challenge to heart by hosting the area’s largest community garage sale. On Saturday, May 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., 51 homes will be selling their wares at their individual homes.

Dubbed the Forest Hill Monster Garage Sale, 2014 marks the second year for this now annual event. Response from the community has been tremendous and as a result, participation has more than doubled. “Last year, we boasted 23 homes and had a great turnout,” notes Marla Zwinggi, Forest Hill resident and the Monster Sale’s head organizer. “I set my goal for 40 homes and I’m overwhelmed that 51 have signed on. We’ve literally upped our participation by well over 100 percent.”

The sales span 21 streets and are within walking distance throughout the beautiful neighborhood that used to be the site of John D. Rockefeller’s summer estate. Patrons should look for garage sale signage and balloons on each tree lawn.

Zwinggi has also compiled an interactive Google Map to make navigation easy to each home at http://tinyurl.com/lzt6n8p.
