Jim Wallis speaks at Fairmount Church April 25

Jim Wallis.

Bestselling author, theologian and public ethics commentator Jim Wallis speaks Wednesday night, April 25, at 7:30 at Fairmount Presbyterian Church in Cleveland Heights.

Wallis, the founder and editor of Sojourners magazine, plans to focus his talk on this year’s presidential election, and ask the question “Are People of Faith Ready for Post-Candidate Politics?” Wallis notes that “the one thing that unites us all, from the Tea Party to the Occupy Wall Street protestors, is that something in our country has gone terribly wrong and Washington is too broken to fix it.” He says, “People of faith should not shirk away from politics but rather find better ways to engage in politics that do not compromise our faith.” Wallis advocates “building post-candidate politics where people matter more than parties.”

Two of Wallis’ books were New York Times bestsellers: The Great Awakening: Reviving Faith and Politics in a Post-Religious Right America and God’s Politics: Why the Right Gets It Wrong and the Left Doesn’t Get it.

Wallis has also written columns for The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Los Angeles Times, and has been interviewed frequently on national television and radio. He has also served on the White House Advisory Council on Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships, and taught at Georgetown University.

The lecture, part of Fairmount’s William Birkett Williams Lecture Series, is free and open to the public.

Fairmount Presbyterian Church is located at 2757 Fairmount Blvd. (at Coventry Road) in Cleveland Heights.
