Cleveland Heights-University Heights Board of Education meeting highlights 8-7-2018

President James Posch, Vice President Jodi Sourini, Dan Heintz and Beverly Wright were present. Malia Lewis was absent. Superintendent Dr. Talisa Dixon and Treasurer Scott Gainer were also present. The meeting began at 7 p.m. and ended at 8:40 p.m.
Board approvals and acceptances
The board approved all financial reports presented, and middle school field trips to Washington, DC, and Quebec.
They also approved group A district policies. Group B policies were presented for the second reading, and group C was presented for the first reading.
The board accepted $1,192 in monetary donations, $200 in school supplies, and one painting and three books valued at $350 total.
Heights Schools Foundation activity
Julianna Johnston Senturia, executive director of the Heights Schools Foundation, reviewed the foundation’s activities in 2017-2018. The activities included the 2017 homecoming and parade, distributing $15,000 in scholarships, rolling out a new magazine, The Heights, and providing teachers with opportunities to apply for grants in a “Shark Tank”-like process.
Request for public input
Mr. Posch encouraged the public to come to the board with any of their concerns.
Upcoming meetings are a work session on August 21, 2018 and a regular board meeting on September 4, 2018. Both are at 7 p.m. at the board of education offices.
