CH Senior Center News

The open enrollment period for Medicare is Oct. 15 through Dec. 7. Medicare health and drug plans change every year, so it’s time for seniors to review their coverage.

Counselors from the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP) will be at the Cleveland Heights Senior Activity Center on Wednesday, Oct. 1, to help seniors review insurance plans and answer questions about Medicare coverage.

Seniors are invited to schedule an appointment to ensure their current health or drug plans are the most cost effective for them, and to learn about the different coverage options.

OSHIIP does not sell insurance, and is a free service provided at no cost through the Ohio Department of Insurance. Seniors should take advantage of this opportunity to get free, unbiased information on Medicare.

For those unable to meet with an OSHIIP counselor on Oct. 18, trained OSHIIP volunteers are available to meet at the senior center by appointment at other times during October, and in the months to come.

To schedule an appointment, call 216-691-7377.

The Cleveland Heights Senior Activity Center (SAC), located in the Cleveland Heights Community Center at 1 Monticello Blvd., offers a wide variety of programming for those 60 and older, and is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. A complete schedule of programs is published in the community center’s newsletter, which is available at Cleveland Heights City Hall, local libraries, the community center and online at www.clevelandheights.com.

SAC membership is $5 for Cleveland Heights residents 60 and older. To sign up, bring a recent piece of mail (such as a bill) and a photo ID.

University Heights residents who would like to join SAC must first register with Patrick Grogan-Myers, University Heights community development coordinator, at 216-932-7800, ext. 203, or pgrogan@universityheights.com. Membership is $10 for University Heights seniors.
