CH-UH BOE outlines superintendent search process

The CH-UH City School District Board of Education (BOE) has put a process in place to identify the next leader of the CH-UH school district. The search is underway for a new superintendent to replace Nylajean McDaniel, who previously announced that she will retire after the end of this school year.

“This will be a critical decision, and it’s extremely important that we get it right. That’s why we will conduct this superintendent search in a thorough, professional and diligent manner,” said Ron Register, BOE president. “Dr. McDaniel has been a strong and steady leader for this district during a time of change, and her leadership is directly responsible for the historic passage of the bond issue, which will renovate and renew our high school and middle schools. That’s an impressive legacy to leave.”

After receiving several proposals, the BOE has decided to contract with the nationally recognized firm of Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates. The firm specializes in helping school districts find strong candidates for senior leadership positions.

The search process will begin immediately and will place a heavy emphasis on gathering community and staff input. Residents and staff can participate in an online survey that asks them to help identify the characteristics that are most important for a leader of the CH-UH City School District.

The online survey is live from Feb. 6 through Feb. 19. It can be accessed at: https://survey.ecragroup.com/limesurvey/index.php/419822/lang-en

Additionally, the community is invited to a community meeting that will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 17, in the Heights High Social Room. This forum will provide an opportunity to discuss the qualities that the community wants to see in the next school leader.

The overall time line for the search process is as follows:

  • Feb. 6: Online survey opens.
  • Feb. 17: Prescheduled interviews with community groups take place all day (starting at 8 a.m.) to learn desired attributes and characteristics of the next superintendent.

  • Feb. 19: Online survey closes at 11:59 p.m.
