CH City Council expected to elect new mayor at Jan. 6 meeting

At its Jan. 6 meeting, Cleveland Heights City Council will swear in newly elected council members and then nominate and vote on a new president of council, who serves as mayor of the City of Cleveland Heights.

According to the meeting agenda, Vice Mayor Dennis Wilcox will request nominations for the Office of President of Council. Then, council members will vote, and the oath of office will be administered to the new president of council.

Subsequently, the new president of council (aka “mayor”) will request nominations for the Office of Vice President of Council. Council members will vote, and the oath of office will be administered to the new vice president of council (aka “vice mayor”).

Newly elected and re-elected council members are Janine Boyd, Jeff Coryell, Jason Stein, Cheryl Stephens and Melissa Yasinow.

After the oaths of office are administered, the new mayor will announce committee membership for each standing committee of council.

Other agenda items include the reports of the city manager and director of finance.

The city council meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in CH council chambers, and will be preceded by a council committee of the whole meeting at 5:45 p.m. in the executice conference room. Following the city council meeting, council members and staff will stay to discuss questions informally with residents.
