December Senior Citizen Happenings

Senior Citizen Happenings are sponsored by the City of University Heights. Events take place on Thursdays at 2 p.m. at the University Heights Library.

Dec. 6: The City at Your Service. Meet University Heights Police Chief Steve Hammett, Fire Chief Dave Rodney, Service Director Jeff Pokorny, Building Commissioner Dave Menn, Finance Director Larry Heiser, and Clerk of Council Kelly Thomas.

Dec. 13: Jen Ziemke, Ph.D., political science professor at John Carroll University, will speak about “crisis mapping.” This is a global network exploring advanced technologies and methodologies, to recognize complex humanitarian emergencies, natural disasters, and violent conflict, and then mobilize aid and relief.

Dec. 20: Dan Akerib, Ph.D., professor of physics at Case Western Reserve University, reports from his laboratory, located 11 minutes and one mile below the earth’s surface in Lead, S.D. He'll talk about his team of scientists, and this work investigating the properties of “dark matter” and other mysteries of the universe.

Dec. 27: No meeting, but best wishes for the holidays!
