Cleveland Heights Democrats to hold ‘War on Women’ forum

Women have been in the news lately—and to many people, that’s not a good thing.

Since the beginning of the year, attacks on women’s reproductive freedom have ramped up to a fever pitch, an assault that’s been dubbed the “War on Women.” The Cleveland Heights Democratic Club will address the topic in a forum on Thursday, April 12, called “The War on Women: How Did It Start? How Can We Fight Back?”

Last year saw the largest amount of legislation ever aimed at limiting abortion. This year, politicians are going after contraception, leaving women—and many men—scratching their heads. Three panelists who have been at the forefront of protecting women’s choice will share information on the current initiatives, where they came from and why, and what people can do about them. Insight will be shared by Kellie Copeland, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio; Gary Dougherty, Planned Parenthood Affiliates of Ohio state legislative director; and Nickie Antonio, state legislator who serves on the House health committee and hears related bills.

The event takes place at 7 p.m. at the Cleveland Heights Community Center (1 Monticello Blvd.). It’s co-sponsored by the Cuyahoga Democratic Women’s Caucus. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, go to www.clevelandheightsdems.com.
