HEIGHTS NOW radio and podcast now available on WJCU FM

The Heights Observer has expanded its community outreach efforts through collaboration with John Carroll University's WJCU-88.7 FM Radio Station.

WJCU Radio has launched the first in a series of 90-second weekly spots, called Heights Now, featuring stories from the current issue of the Heights Observer.

Heights Now can be heard

  • Monday 7am
  • Tuesday 10am
  • Wednesday 1pm
  • Thursday 3pm
  • Friday 4pm

The partnership will enable citizen-driven, hyper-local news to reach a broader audience of Cleveland Heights and University Heights residents. Mark Krieger, director of WJCU and adjunct assistant professor of communication and theatre arts, said the station had been looking for years to do a locally based community news product that would provide a consistent format over a long duration.

"This is a good collaboration, and is a big part of what has been the missing link in WJCU programming," says Krieger. "WJCU's mission has always included a need to serve community interests and taste, but local news programming devoted to that part of the mission has not always been available until recently." Currently, Heights Observer stories can be read online (http://www.heightsobserver.org) or by picking up a free print version of the newspaper at merchants in Cleveland Heights and University Heights.

This collaboration, which provides a third avenue to access to local news "is synergistic," says Deanna Bremer Fisher, executive director of FutureHeights. "Our partnership with WJCU is in line with our efforts to extend the reach of the Heights Observer and further its goals of creating and building community while encouraging civic engagement." The Heights Observer is a nonprofit citizen-based community newspaper published monthly by FutureHeights. FutureHeights promotes civic engagement in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.
