Cheryl Stephens runs for CH City Council
Stephens, an economic development professional currently serving on the Cleveland Heights Planning Commission, previously served as the city’s director of planning and development and as director of the Cuyahoga County Department of Development; she currently sits on the Cuyahoga County Board of Revision. Her expertise in economic development also extends to projects that utilize funding such as state and federal historic tax credits.
This development acumen is one of the driving motivations for her run for office. “In these uncertain economic times, I believe it is important that city council have someone with deep experience in economic development,” she said in her announcement. “There is a good team assembled on Council, led by Mayor Ed Kelly and Vice Mayor Phyllis Evans. Each has a unique set of skills. Mine happen to be economic development and I want to bring that expertise to the team.”
Already endorsed by Mayor Ed Kelly and council members Wilcox and Evans, Stephens will make her announcement official at the home of Michael Ungar. “I believe the time is now to plan for a better future for our City. People may feel nervous with the state of our economy. We need to have plans in place to maintain the special 'Cleveland Heights quality of life' we all enjoy, expect and deserve. I believe that with my economic development background and with the voters confidence and support, I can help craft that plan,” said Stephens.
When she makes her announcement, Stephens will be surrounded by many local business people whom she has assisted and advised over the years in Cleveland Heights and Cuyahoga County.
Stephens has been endorsed by Cuyahoga County Commissioner Peter Lawson Jones, Cuyahoga County Treasurer Jim Rokakis and the Cleveland Heights Fraternal Order of Police.
“Over the next five months, I will have a serious conversation with my fellow citizens about the conditions that we each face and some of the remedies needed. I am confident that together we can find solutions to preserve the Cleveland Heights we want. I will bring the vision, the voice and the values of our residents to Cleveland Heights City Council. I am asking for the help of the voters of this city, on November 3rd, to help elect me to Cleveland Heights City Council.”
