“Voices of the Hill” Meets “Voices of the Heights.”
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
April is Fair Housing Month, and this year marks the 50th anniversary of the passage of the landmark Fair Housing Act. Heights Community Congress invites you to join us for an innovative look at how student-led activism can help us mark this important event. Join us on Friday, April 20, 2018 for a Panel Discussion with Q & A entitled “Voices of the Hill” Meets “Voices of the Heights.” In 2016, a group of high school students interviewed activists in their community, and the documentary film they produced—“Voices of the Hill”—was featured at the 2017 Cleveland International Film Festival. Join the producer, director, and some of the young filmmakers as they share insights about their experiences. We’ll see clips from the movie and we’ll talk about how the movie was made, how their community developed, and how the kids captured their story.

Join the discussion as we explore the lessons Heights Community Congress can learn from their experience for our upcoming project: Voices of the Heights. Citizen activism has played a large role in the history of Cleveland Heights, as the formation of HCC illustrates. How can HCC tell the story of the role of citizens in ensuring compliance with the Fair Housing Act, which turns 50 this year? How did this “cabal of troublemaking housewives” change the face of a city?

This is sure to be a lively and informative discussion—all are welcome to attend!?

This event is FREE and open to the public.

Dobama Theatre presents the regional premiere of APPROPRIATE by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, directed by Nathan Motta

Winner of the 2014-15 Obie Award for Best Play

When the patriarch of the Lafayette clan dies, the family is forced to descend upon the crumbling Arkansas homestead to settle accounts. As the three adult children rummage through a mountain of hoarded relics, they spar over a lifetime of junk, past relationship issues, and inherited debts. But when they make a disturbing discovery among their father's possessions, the reunion takes a turn for the volatile, forcing every member to confront their family history and each other. APPROPRIATE is a thought-provoking whirlwind of explosive surprises and crackling confrontations.

APPROPRIATE features Tracee Patterson*, Ursula Cataan*, Tom Woodward*, Abraham McNeil Adams+, Kelly McCready*, Jacob Eeg, and Ireland Derry.
