Gala Event at Beth El –The Heights Synagogue
Beth El – The Heights Synagogue in Cleveland Heights announces a gala event marking two special occasions in the life of the community:
• The 20th anniversary of the founding of the synagogue
• The Installation of our new Rabbi, Michael Ungar
The event, scheduled for December 1st, 2018, will be intertwined with regular Shabbat services at the synagogue. Beth El – The Heights Synagogue was founded in the fall of 1998 through the merger of the old Temple Beth El, formerly in Shaker Heights, and the Heights Synagogue that was itself founded about five years previously, in Cleveland Heights. The commemoration includes a special luncheon after services; all past presidents will be invited to attend and be recognized.
Rabbi Ungar, who moved recently from Columbus to the Cleveland area, will be installed in a three-part fête including prayer, spoken work and song.
Services begin at 9:30 and the ceremonies will commence after 10:30 am. Participants from the congregation, the community, and from Columbus are expected.
All in the greater Cleveland community are invited to join us. The synagogue is located at 3246 Desota Avenue in Cleveland Heights. Parking on the street is free.
For further information, contact Dr. Bud Stern or Dr. Robin Dubin at (216) 320-9667.

FREE FILM "Sexual Revolution: 50 Years Since Humanae Vitae" at Cedar Lee
4:00 PM - 6:30 PM
This new film highlights the fall-out of the 1960s cultural changes in light of the Catholic Church’s prophetic teaching in the 1968 document Humanae Vitae on marriage, sex, parenthood and birth control.

The groundbreaking film also examines the parallel development of the Pill and fertility awareness methods, later known as Natural Family Planning.

The movie was inspired by the true-life story of recording artist and pro-choice feminist Alana Newman, a young woman born by anonymous sperm donor conception. Searching for the truth about her biological father, she stumbles onto the Catholic teachings in Humanae Vitae and Theology of the Body and is transformed by what she discovers.

The film features interviews with Dr. Janet Smith, Helen Alvaré, Dr. Peter Kreeft, Christopher West, Abby Johnson, Archbishop Charles Chaput, and the doctors who developed modern Natural Family Planning.

Sexual Revolution will be shown free of charge at Cedar Lee theater in Cleveland Heights on Sunday, October 21 at 4 pm – and again at Holy Rosary Church on Mayfield Road in Cleveland on Tuesday, October 23 at 7 pm with Q&A and audience discussion afterward.
