“Democracy Day” Public Hearing
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Cleveland Heights “Democracy Day” Public Hearing

Think there’s too much money in politics?
Does it seem that corporations have too much power?

In 2013, Cleveland Heights voters passed, with a 77% “yes” vote, Issue 32 in support of a Constitutional Amendment clearly stating that corporations do not have Constitutional rights, and money is not speech.

Issue 32 also established annual public hearings “to examine the impact on our City, our state and our nation of political influence by corporate entities and big money” in elections.

Cleveland Heights City Council will hold the 5th Annual Public Hearing on January 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Cleveland Heights City Hall “Members of the general public will be afforded the opportunity to speak on these matters for up to five minutes per person.”

It’s your democracy!

January 21, 2018, is also the 8th Anniversary of the Citizens United Supreme Court decision.

Admission is free and the auditorium will be converted into a temporary Black Box (theatre-in-the-round) space.

David Jurns is the show's producer and is an English and theater arts teacher.

Grounded
7:30 PM - 9:00 PM
Dobama Theatre presents the Cleveland produced premiere of GROUNDED by George Brant, directed by Alice Reagan.

An ace fighter pilot’s career in the sky is ended early due to an unexpected pregnancy. Reassigned to operate military drones from a windowless trailer outside Las Vegas, she hunts terrorists by day and returns home to her family each night. As the pressure to track a high-profile target mounts, the boundaries begin to blur between the desert in which she lives and the one she patrols half a world away. GROUNDED is an epic poem that crafts an experience that is timely, human, and vital.
Winner of the Smith Prize for Political Theatre. GROUNDED features Anjanette Hall as the Pilot.

The show runs for 90 minutes with no intermission. Contains adult language and light effects.
