Yiddish Past & Present
2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Yiddish once played a major role in the Jewish community, including here in Cleveland. The language of Tevye was part of the daily lives of many. Join us to hear about the importance of Yiddish for Jewish immigrants a century ago, how it became integrated into vernacular English, and about how it is changing and developing in the 21st century. Sean Martin, Ph.D., of the Western Reserve Historical Society, will lead our discussion and will send you home with a Yiddish phrase or two as well.
