American Association of University Women Heights-Hillcrest-Lyndhurst Branch Book Discussion "Becoming Nicole: The Transformation of an American Family
6:45 PM - 8:15 PM
Bring your library copy of Becoming Nicole or just yourself to our annual book read on Wednesday January 24th at 6:45 p.m. at the Beachwood Library. We will provide some warm beverages and some coffee house treats.
The book is a choice of AAUW's Adelante! Book of the Month Club*. Amy Ellis Nutt, a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist was given the chance to follow an American family while they raised a transgender child and describe how their lives were transformed. To learn more about the subject and prepare for our discussion you may want to watch and listen to a YouTube video posted on AAUW's website. There you can listen to Amy Ellis Nutt discussing her book. To find the video at www.aauw.org search for the author's name.
AAUW advocates for equality, individual rights and social justice for a diverse society.
*AAUW found that female authors are much less likely than male authors to have their books reviewed in major publications like The New York Times and Harper's magazine. That is why they created the Adelante! Book of the Month Club to spotlight engrossing stories and writing by women of all backgrounds.
