Book Launch at Mac's Backs
12:00 PM
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Former Cleveland Heights Author Launches Latest Book at Mac’s Backs

Cleveland-born novelist and short story writer Saul Isler will launch his latest book of shorts, The Blue Shoes (Pocamug Press), on June 22 at Mac’s Backs, the venerable book store on Coventry in Cleveland Heights, the community where much of his first novel, Babe Ruth Is Missing, is set. Several stories in The Blue Shoes reference his home town.
Isler is a true Cleveland Heights native. Starting kindergarten at Boulevard Elementary there in 1939, he grew up to run twice for the Cleveland Heights School Board.
A Heights High grad (’52) and class president, Isler did not move away from Cleveland Heights like most of his classmates after graduation. Instead he steadfastly remained, living in five different homes there, his last one sharing a fence with Coventry School. He was a familiar figure on the Coventry strip, designing the poster for a Coventry Street Fair, and guidinging the inauguration of the Centrum Theater as a fundraiser for the Heights Youth Center, on whose board he served for many years. He also was a founder of the Cleveland Indians Wahoo Club in 1962 and the National Rib Cookoff in 1983.
He had yet to write his first book before emigrating to Los Angeles in 1996, but since then has written four novels including his Ovid Kent “Missing” trilogy, Babe Ruth Is Missing; Shakespeare Is Missing and the as yet unfinished Jesus Is Missing, and a YA novel, The Cave at Devils Elbow, plus two books of short stories, The Man in the Parking Lot and The Blue Shoes and a humorous treatise on the solving of Acrostic puzzles, The Majestic Acrostic.
Pocamug Press, publisher of The Blue Shoes and The Majestic Acrostic, has signed him on for his “Missing” trilogy.
Mac’s Backs owner Suzanne Degaetano has scheduled Isler’s Meet the Author event for 12 Noon, Saturday, June 24. It will be a dual launch if Babe Ruth Is Missing is off the presses in time.”
Isler, while living in Cleveland, freelanced a column, The Woodbutcher, for the Plain Dealer, and wrote several cover stories about Cleveland’s restaurant scene for the PD Sunday Magazine. He now lives and writes in Santa Monica, California.
