Creating a Democracy Movement
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Speaker: Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap
National Director of Move to Amend, Principal with the Program on Corporations Law and Democracy (POCLAD), Local Democracy Fellow for the Liberty Tree Foundation, and Board President of Democracy Unlimited.

Our democracy is in crisis. The voices and needs of people and communities are increasingly ignored on issue after issue by our elected officials. Government regularly represents corporate and wealthy interests. Issue campaigns are often fragmented and lack sufficient people power to affect real change.

Yet people are rising up — resisting, responding and reacting across the country to injustices, violence and destruction of the environment in their communities. The challenge is how to create a proactive multi-racial, multi-issue and intergenerational movement addressing fundamental change that achieves both short- and long-term victories. Kaitlin will discuss the role Move to Amend — which seeks a constitutional amendment to end corporate personhood and money defined as free speech — is playing in building with others that movement.

Hear the presentation. Join the discussion.
