Guided tour of historic WPA murals in Oxford Elementary School
1:00 PM - 1:30 PM
As part of the upcoming Noble Neighborhood Community Day on April 26th, ICA Paintings Conservator Wendy Partridge will speak on the history and conservation treatment of the four WPA murals at Oxford Elementary School. ICA has conserved numerous artworks in Northeast Ohio, including the Oxford School fairy tale murals in 2000.

The Oxford School murals, Cinderella and The Pied Piper by Gladys Carambella and Agriculture and Industry by LeRoy Flint, were commissioned in the 1930s under the auspices of the WPA's Federal Arts Project. They are delightful works and very significant in the history of the Ohio WPA. However, unless they have children who attended Oxford School, most people are unlikely to know about them. This guided tour will give visitors the opportunity to see the murals in person and to learn about some of the wonderful cultural assets that are part of the Oxford school community and the CH-UH school district.

Reservations are not required for this FREE public program. Two tours will be given to maximum of 25 people per group. The first tour will begin from the front doors of the school at 1:00, and the second tour will begin at 1:30.

Sponsored by ICA-Art Conservation, CH-UH City School District, and City of Cleveland Heights.
