Founded by Cleveland native Ruth DeGolia in 2004, the ethical fashion brand and social enterprise Mercado Global will be hosting a fundraising event on March 11th from 6:30pm-8:30pm at The Wine Spot to support its educational and market access programs. Founded in 2004, Mercado Global takes a unique approach to fighting poverty through ethical fashion. Working with international retailers to incorporate sustainable sourcing from artisans, Mercado Global offers a pioneering approach to address the cause, not just the symptoms of cyclical poverty: lack of access to income.

Working with a network of over 300 indigenous women weavers and sewers living in more than 30 communities throughout the highlands of Guatemala, Mercado Global has partnered with international retailers and lifestyle brands such as Anthropologie, Comptoir des Cotonniers, and Free People and the event will feature the brand’s latest Spring/Summer 2015 collection which will be in J. Crew stores nationwide this season
