The 2014 Cleveland Garlic Festival
12:00 PM - 6:00 PM
North Union Farmers’ Market is proud to present the sixth annual Cleveland Garlic Festival at historic Shaker Square! This grassroots food and music event will take place Saturday, September 06, 2014 from Noon to 9:00 PM, and Sunday, September 07, 2014 from Noon to 6:00 PM. All proceeds will support North Union’s mission of championing local foods by connecting certified producers with consumers through a network of markets in order to:
Supply the community with the freshest, most nutritious food – harvested ripe and brought fresh to market

Support growth and incubate over 300 small businesses in Northeast Ohio

Stimulate the local economy by keeping money in our communities

Keep Ohio land producing food and supporting families, which saves farms from destruction

“This is a natural outgrowth of our seven markets and their close connection with all of the Cleveland area’s top chefs who purchase products at our markets,” states Donita Anderson, Executive Director of the North Union Farmers’ Market. She continues, “This event showcases the tremendous culinary talent here in Northeast Ohio. Many people are not aware that Ohio garlic has a singular special quality because of the soil. This means greater anti-viral health and most importantly, the best garlic in the world!”

The Cleveland Garlic Festival will be ground zero for “all things garlic” in the Midwest Great Lakes region. Attendees will enjoy garlic-themed food prepared by local chefs including everything from ice cream to oysters, an onsite celebrity chef Grill-Off, live music, cooking demonstrations, wine tastings, taste and grow tents for children, and many more events and activities.

So mark your calendars and get out the breath mints – the Cleveland Garlic Festival arrives this Fall!

Geology Walking Tour
2:00 PM - 12:00 AM
Dr. Joseph Hannibal of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History will lead you through the study of rocks and minerals found in The Lake View Cemetery. Cemeteries preserve historical and geological legacies and at The Lake View Cemetery, those legacies can be read in headstone materials and inscriptions, and in features of the geologic and man-made settings. This tour will include the northern part of the Cemetery including Wade Chapel, the dam and the gravesites of two famous Cleveland geologists. This should be an interesting and informative tour.

The Lake View Cemetery, founded in 1869, is a treasure chest of discoveries in architecture, geology, sculpture, animal life and horticulture. The Cemetery’s history and heritage includes names of those who made great contributions to the area’s and nation’s industrial, civic, social and cultural development. A few examples are John D. Rockefeller, Garrett A. Morgan, Adella Prentiss Hughes, Jane Edna Hunter, Carl B. Stokes and President James A. Garfield.

The Lake View Cemetery offers a diverse year-round schedule of educational and cultural events. With a wide selection of interment space available for the next 150 years, The Lake View Cemetery is committed to maintaining the natural beauty and dignity of this historic non-sectarian cemetery.
